संक्षिप्त परिचय – सरयू और घाघरा जैसी पवित्र नदियों के किनारे बसा गोंडा जिला उत्तर- प्रदेश के प्रमुख जिलों में से एक है. यह जिला देवीपाटन मंडल के अंतर्गत आता है तथा मंडल का प्रशासनिक केन्द्र भी है.  गोंडा शहर जिले का मुख्यालय है. यह जिला प्रदेश के प्राचीनतम जिलों में से एक है. नदियों के बीच बसे होने के कारण कृषि के दृष्टिकोण से भी गोंडा को एक समृद्ध जिले के रूप में जाना जाता है. यह जिला चीनी के उद्योग के लिए भी प्रसिद्ध है. ऐतिहासिक पृष्ठभूमि – यह जिला प्राचीन होने के साथ ही पौराणिक दृष्टिकोण से भी महत्वपूर्ण है. गोंडा को लेकर मान्यता है कि त्रेतायुग में भगवान श्री राम की गायें जिले से जुड़े भूभाग में चरने आया करती थीं. इस क्षेत्र को ‘गोनर्द’ नाम से जाना जाता था. गोनर्द के परिवर्तित रूप को ही आज गोंडा नाम से जानते हैं. गोंडा को राजा कौशल की गोचर भूमि के रूप में भी जाना जाता है. प्राचीन इतिहास में जिले के कोशल महाजनपद का भाग होने का भी वर्णन मिलता है. वहीं मुगलकालीन इतिहास में यह जिला अवध साम्राज्य Read more...
