Gomti cleaning project's faulty plans exposed, Lucknow flooded at several places Rising water in th Rising water in the river Gomti is causing trouble to people and property of the city. Recently, Millat nagar locality of Fazullahganj locality flooded with river water, affecting people of 25 houses. In a reason it was stated that temporary dam was vandalized by the livestock that was constructed to hold water near Kudiyaghaat. SDM Sadar, Rajkamal yadav has been enquired for the reason of houses constructed in the line of the river. To restore the situation, DM Lucknow has called a technical team to survey the area and meanwhile has instructed to install medical camps to avoid any medical problem.

In the Other story, 7 villages drowned with the risen water in the river Gomti, destroying the crops and property of the villagers. Villagers haven’t received the adequate help and are wary of the rising water.

According to environmentalist Venkatesh Dutta, the possible cause for this flooding can be the narrowing of the river channel that holds water near dams. The unplanned construction activities are destroying the ecology of the river, in turn adversely affecting lives of those associated with it.

This brings us to the point-Who is responsible for faulty planning for these mammoth constructions on river Gomti??

What are we looking for?

Based on empirical evidences and experiences in recent past we are looking at a water catastrophe in India. The country faces drought or deluge, millions moving out of agriculture and then into urban systems without any transition or training. This will not only give to loss of life and land but can be a reason of major unrest in India.

At this point of time we are aiming to build a strong representation to protect water and natural systems at the local level. We want policy interventions and strong implementation at states level to keep natural resources untouched and free to take their own form for generations to come.
