CIC turning away RTI applicants without photo identity proof. How it will effect you.
1. One more bureaucratic hurdle, adding to the paper trail. Which will be used as a precedence by other RTI agencies in India.
2. We think, states will now enforce "Native" condition to the RTI applications. You can't safely sit in Delhi and RTI UP/Bihar.
If you are in UP/Bihar, its easy to persecute and come after you since now you are under State jurisdiction. This puts RTI activists at huge risk, as we see in the news.
3.One more document and enforcement will waste a huge amount of taxpayers money in non-growth related activity e.g. like providing good healthcare, or schooling.
4. If someday CIC thinks about putting all the RTI applications online (like TRAI did), the privacy and safety of the applicant is at risk.
All it needed was to get all the RTI systems digitized (on rtionline.gov.in) and use phone number or Credit Cards to authenticate the users, since now we are in 21st century and sing Digital India songs daily.
Just a sad state of affairs.
