विगत 18 वर्षों से बिहार की एक हम राजनैतिक पार्टी के रूप में कार्य कर रही है राष्ट्रीय जनता पार्टी (राजद/आरजेडी), जिसका गठन लालू प्रसाद यादव ने जनता दल परिवार से अलग होकर 1997 में किया था. यह पार्टी समाजवादी विचारधारा पर चलने की बात करती है और इसका चुनाव चिन्ह लालटेन है. इसके अध्यक्ष लालू प्रसाद यादव हैं और पार्टी की विचारधारा के बारे में उनका कहना है कि यह लालटेन निर्धनों के घरों को रोशन करेगा और समाज में समानता के सिद्धांत को लागू करेगा.
