भारत की धार्मिक एवं सांस्कृतिक राजधानी मानी जाने वाली वाराणसी नगरी को दो
पवित्र नदियों यानि वरुणा और असी का संगम कहा जाता है, अथार्त वह स्थान जहां ये
दोनों नदियां आकर मिलती हों “वाराणसी” के नाम से जाना गया. इसी पावन वरुणा नदी के
किनारे बसा है सरसौली वार्ड. शिवपुरी सबजोन के अंतर्गत आने वाला सरसौली वार्ड
तकरीबन 1.267 वर्ग किलोमीटर के दायरे में फैला हुआ है.

मिली जुली आबादी वाले इस वार्ड में वर्ष 2011 की जनगणना के अनुसार 15,000 के
आस पास जनसंख्या का निवास है. इस वार्ड में आने वाले प्रमुख मोहल्लों में गौतम
विहार कॉलोनी, श्यामपुरी ब्लॉक, बजरंग विहार कॉलोनी, भुनेश्वर नगर कॉलोनी, आनंद
नगर कॉलोनी, राजेंद्रपुरी कॉलोनी, गिरधरनगर कॉलोनी, वृंदावन कॉलोनी इत्यादि
सम्मिलित हैं. साथ ही यहां अनोला हरिजन बस्ती, सरसौली नगर कॉलोनी जैसे मलिन बस्ती
क्षेत्र शामिल है.

यहां पार्षद के तौर पर भारतीय जनता पार्टी से सुनील सोनकर जी कार्यरत हैं जो
वर्ष 2017 से जन प्रतिनिधि के रूप में स्थानीय विकास कार्यों में संलग्न हैं.
दक्षिणी विधानसभा में आने वाले इस वार्ड में जीविका के साधन मिले जुले हैं, यानि
यहां व्यापारी वर्ग, छोटे लघु-कुटीर उद्योगों से जुड़ी जनता, छोटे व्यापार में
संलग्न लोगों के साथ साथ नौकरीपेशा जनता का भी निवास स्थान है, जिसमें सरकारी एवं
प्राइवेट दोनों ही सेक्टर से जुड़े लोग सम्मिलित हैं.
जनता की मौलिक सुविधाओं के तौर पर इस वार्ड में स्कूलों, अस्पतालों, बैंकों,
एटीएम, पार्कों, मंदिरों इत्यादि की भी सुविधा हैं. यहां शिक्षा सुविधा के रूप में भगवानदास स्कूल, ज्योति
निकेतन स्कूल, बालाजी स्कूल, ऋषभ डेव पब्लिक स्कूल इत्यादि उपलब्ध है. साथ ही यहां
भुनेश्वर नगर पार्क, गौतम विहार पार्क एवं टैगोर टाउन पार्क भी मौजूद हैं, जो जनता
के भ्रमण करने का अच्छा विकल्प हैं.
वार्ड की प्रमुख समस्याओं की बात की जाये तो सीवर समस्या को
वार्ड की सबसे बड़ी समस्या मानते हुए स्थानीय पार्षद जी का कहना है कि वैसे तो उनके
क्षेत्र में बुनियादी सुविधाओं हेतु विकास कार्य सतत रूप से चलता ही रहता है, किन्तु सीवर
समस्या को लेकर अभी तक कोई कार्य नहीं हो पाया है.
